Dental Cleanings

It is important that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss at least once a day. But keep in mind that these practices alone are not enough to maintain your oral health. Every 6 months, you need to see your dentist or a dental hygienist who can perform an oral prophylaxis (teeth cleaning).

Even regular brushing and flossing cannot prevent the constant buildup of tartar and plaque around your teeth. The bristles of your toothbrush cannot reach certain areas around your teeth and gums hence the need for routine teeth cleanings.

Our professional teeth cleaning process makes use of specialized tools to remove the hard and soft deposits around your teeth which, if not eliminated, may lead to cavities and gum disease.

Our oral prophylaxis procedure includes:

  • Tooth scaling This involves removing the deposits of tartar and plaque. The dentist/ dental hygienist will use an ultrasound scraper to remove most of the tartar. The remaining tartar will then be removed with specialized hand-held instruments.
  • Tooth polishing This follows scaling, and it polishes your teeth to make them smooth. It may seem like merely a cosmetic procedure, as it removes stains in your teeth to make them look shiny. Yet it also eliminates tough patches and small imperfections on the teeth where plaque may build up more easily.
  • Debridement Your dentist may recommend this procedure if you have missed several routine cleanings over the years. It involves the removal of plaque and tartar that have already set on your teeth for a longer time. This procedure will involve the use of a more specialized equipment, and it may cause a little gum tenderness due to its greater intensity.

It is important that you receive dental cleanings regularly, as they’re a crucial aspect of proper dental care. The benefits of this procedure include:

  • You can maintain your gorgeous smile.
  • There’s lowered risk of gum disease.
  • You can avoid bad breath.
  • It can help prevent oral cancer.

It is also a fact that maintaining your oral health is crucial for your overall physical health.
